Monday 28 Nov Diwan, Cinema Radio 6pm About the event: Diwan Cinema Radio branch is happy to announce the opening of "In The Eye of the Beholder" exhibition by Shereen Ragab. Join us this Monday at 6pm at our newest branch in Downtown Cairo to explore Shereen's captivating artwork. About the author: I’ve had a passion towards painting since I was four, my mom helped me in developing my artistic skills. I believe that any kind of art isn’t about acquiring the best drawing and painting skills, it’s all about feelings and sensations. This is the only thing that makes an artist unique, that’s why I decided to follow my feelings in everything I do. I started to paint and follow the steps of great artists in Egypt like Khalid Ragab and Mohamed Elazhary. They helped me to understand many things about art, I painted hyper realism style, impressionism, and tried different styles of painting. I’m in love with oil paints, I feel it takes me to a wonderland. I also took online private art courses with Netherland-based artist Mahmoud Badarni, who taught me abstract art. Finally, I discovered and reached my own painting style.

About the photographer: Ashraf Talaat studied "Genetics" before starting his career as a photographer in 1989, after attending a workshop with Magnum photographers Abbas. He has traveled to over 103 countries for his photographic projects about human interest and living heritage. His work has been exhibited worldwide and part of his photographs have been collected in 4 books, Vision, People through The lens, point of view, and Moments In Our Life. He worked as a documentary and storyteller photographer for several years with different magazines including, Business, Egypt Today, Le Revue, Travel Today, Carnival, and National Geographic Arabia.

Dust: Egypt’s Forgotten Architecture leads us seductively into some of the most breathtaking architectural spaces of Egypt’s recent past, filled with a sense of both the immense weight and impermanence of history. About the Photographer: Xenia Nikolskaya is a Russian-Swedish photographer and visual artist, based in Cairo, Egypt. Xenia studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, received her MFA from the Russian Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg in 1998, and her Ph.D. from the University of Sunderland, UK. Nikolskaya’s work has been exhibited in 20 solo and 40 group shows internationally and is held in prestigious collections, such as The State Hermitage Museum, Sveriges Allmaänna Konstförening, UBS Bank and in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Arts Centre. Newsweek, GEO, Cosmopolitan, and ELLE have commissioned her work. Fulbright fellow, Nikolskaya was teaching photography at the Russian Academy of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg State University, Rutgers University, New York, and American University in Cairo. She is currently teaching at the German University in Cairo. Her first book “Dust” has been published in March 2012 with Dewi Lewis Publishing, UK. During her work as a head of the exhibition department and photo archive at RIA Novosty, Xenia curated about 50 exhibitions and edited several books, including “Anatoly Garanin, Soviet Union” which has been shortlisted Russian National Book Design Contest – Zarkniga. She was also on a jury of The Andrei Stenin International Photo Contest and The Ukrainian Photographer of the year. Her 2nd book “The House My Grandfather Built” was published in 2020 by Nikolskaya-Lund Publishing, Sweden, and received the Best Swedish Photobook of the Year Prize in 2021.
